A New Grand Avenue Mural by Lucretia Torva for the Phoenix Trolley Museum

This project will fund a new, 36-foot-long mural in Phoenix's Grand Avenue Arts District for the Phoenix Trolley Museum.

The Phoenix Trolley Museum is working to develop its new museum location at 1117 Grand Avenue, in the heart of historic Grand Avenue. The area is well-known for its murals and street art, and PTM is excited in this project to make its contribution to the streetscape. The colorful, eye-catching mural will raise the museum's visibility and profile and help us in our coming capital campaigns to fund new museum facilities.

Site of the Mural

The artist, Lucretia Torva, is a well-known painter in the Phoenix area, and has completed numerous mural projects in and around Phoenix. View examples of her recent mural work here.   This mural will fill a 7-foot-high concrete block wall, 36 feet long, fronting directly on Grand Avenue between Taylor and Fillmore Streets.

The working design for the art depicts Motorman #1 Wesley Wenner,  who worked in the Phoenix streetcar system from 1902-1930. He is shown announcing the coming of the trolley car 116, which is PTM's central possession and which will be put on exhibit at the site once a secure shelter can be developed.

The bulk of the project costs are to cover Ms. Torva's $2,500 stipend. The additional $250 will purchase painting materials and disposable tools to prepare the wall surface for the new mural.  An estimated 10 hours of volunteer time will be dedicated to the project for wall preparation and incidental assistance to the artist. The full working design is shown here:
